Welcome to the Jordans Music Club Summer Festival.
After
our very successful 2009 season, we again have a marvellous line up of
artists for our four Sunday evening concerts in 2010, with a wide
variety of chamber music to suit everyone.
Our 67th season will begin on 30th May,
with an internationally renowned young French quartet,
Quatuor Ebène,
who will play the second of Haydn’s Op 71 quartets and Mendelssohn’s last
quartet, the highly emotive F minor, as well as the Debussy G minor
quartet which features on their latest recording of French quartets,
awarded ‘Recording of the Year’ by Gramophone magazine. This is followed
on 13th June by the talented harpsichord and string
ensemble,
Sounds Baroque
, performing ‘A Baroque Cornucopia’ of music from the seventeenth and eighteenth
centuries.
We then
welcome back on 27th June the celebrated international
pianist
Stephen Kovacevich
who will play an exciting programme, opening with Bach’s sublime 4th
Partita, a short piece by that most subtle of composers, Takemitsu,
continuing with Schumann Kinderszenen (in the composer’s 200th
anniversary year) and concluding with one of Schubert’s last sonatas,
the Bb major. Our season closes on 11th July with
another very special recital. The renowned clarinettist,
Robert Plane, is joined by two other outstanding musicians, cellist
Guy Johnston
and pianist
Sophia Rahman
and a young singer,
Sara Lian
at the start of what promises to be a very exciting career, for a varied
programme of trios and duets.
Do come along
and hear these wonderful talents. We look forward to welcoming you.
